I picked up this beast this weekend, so I figured it was a good time to introduce myself.
I'm 27 and from from Minnesota and have been racing asphalt circle track for over 10 years. I raced a Late Model a couple years ago and after that was done, I rolled back my racing schedule. My dad and I tried something different, the 24 Hours of Lemons endurance racing series. We run 1 or 2 races a year and get all the track time we want in one weekend. It's a great time, and the Buick Regal we had was great fun. It's killing us in the weight and gas mileage department, so we wanted to build a clone of the 4 cylinder class that runs near us.
The low weight and fuel economy of the Chevette while retaining the rwd setup we know how to drive was very appealing, so I snagged this car with another chassis that had been gutted but not raced. Both have been sitting for ~5 years, but we won't be racing this year so we have plenty of time to sort things out. We also plan on buying a lot of spare motors and 5 speed transmissions from our old crew member's racing program. He bought an entire car and spare parts program for his kid and he wrecked the car in practice. He still has all the spare parts and the drive trains so we plan on using that to cobble together a car.
Between all of that we should be able to field a car for next year's endurance race schedule without a problem.
I'm glad to see this resource online and I've already learned a lot from it. Thanks for reading and I hope I can add something to this community.
