I'm building a street engine for my 78 Chevette. I'm just wondering what how high of a compression ratio I should aim for and still be safe on 93 octane? I'm using an 83 block I still need to make a decision on pistons. I have a 678 head I'm planning a valve job and maybe planed a bit, but I'm scared to have anybody local port it though. I picked up a bullet 278 duration cam for it. For the exhaust I'm planning on using the factory HO manifold, and will be using a 2bbl intake with a Weber 32/36 DFEV carb. I don't have all the details Ironed out yet, I'm just worried I'm going to go either go overboard on the compression ratio and not be safe on pump gas, or I'm not going to go high enough, and miss out on some power. This is my first engine, and I'm learning as I go, I'd just rather not learn from mistakes on my budget.
