I am very saddend to post that Robert Gilreath, a dear friend of mine and many others in the racing community passed away at his home last night. Funeral arrangements have not been set at this time. I will post more information as I recieve it. Please keep the Gilreath family in your thoughts and prayers. Robert Gilreath will be missed by all who knew him. He built dominating flat head Fords in the 60's and continued to be involved in motorsports throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's, helping his son in motocross and others in tractor pulling. I met Robert in 2001 through another legend that is no longer with us (Houston Montgomery). Robert and I became friends instantly and i will always cherish those moments we had together. We won many races and a championship with him designing and building engines and seting up the car. He was also the man behind the black #8 of Ronnie Choate Jr. and I believe that speaks for itself. He was successful in everything he done, and the SMARTEST person i ever knew. I can see him now sitting at his table at G&L with a calculator, pen, and paper engineering the next Chevette engine or part that will blow away the competition. I can rest easy knowing that Robert is not suffering from health problems anymore and is in Heaven eating a Clinton County Hamburger as he watches the cars go 'round! ;D WE WILL MISS YOU ROBERT!

I was on my way back home this afternoon, listening to the XM radio and this song came on. It's funny how certain things happen in certain situations, but i thought thats a perfect song in tribute to Robert. He was a big fan of bluegrass music, always had his car radio on WSMV 650 AM on friday afternoons. The signal would go in and out as Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs burned up the banjo. Of course we were on our way to a race track, Clinton County mainly, he would always talk about "boy i can't wait to get one of those clinton county burgers" lol Sorry i keep blabbing on and on about some of the times we had, but this man changed my life. He was an inspiration, a true friend, and my hero.
BLUEGRASS HAS NEVER BEEN SO BLUE - IN TRIBUTE TO ROBERT GILREATH.
