If im thinking right the s-10's T5 is a borg warner just like the mustang or the chevette 5 speed. In that case all those bell housings should be interchangable. When I had the T5 in my car the shifter was in a much better spot than the short tailshaft 4 speed. It is not in an inconvenient spot.

The crossmembers are all different from the auto, 4-speed and 5 speed. S-10 t-5 will bolt on, but the speedometre will not work the same. Chevette's runs backwards from all the other T-5's.
Also the S-10 T-5's shifter is in the middle of the tranny whereas the Chevette's is at the back.
I would use a Chevette T-5 if I were you, and then if you wanted to, you could swap out gears from other non-world-class T-5's. If you go that route, make sure you get the driveshaft from a donor car with the same amount of doors as your car.
