Holman Motors Firecracker 400 beats the heat at Moler Raceway Park!!
6-30-12 – Williamsburg,OH - After powerful storms ripped through the area on Friday night the decision was made to reschedule the Holman Motors Firecracker 400 for Saturday night and with 100 degree temperatures the track would open 1 hour later than usual. The $1,500 to win for a Chevette event would attract a strong field of 19 cars with competitors making the trek to MRP from as far away as Tennessee. Defending Modified division track champion “The Buzzard” Doug Adkins would climb into the defending Chevette division champion Miles Tarvin’s #78 machine with Tarvin unable to attend the event. Adkins would take the checkers in his first official race in a Chevette in heat race #1. Heat race #2 would see newcomer Ronnie Choate Jr. of Cookeville Tennessee taking the win to set the starting lineup for the 40 lap feature event. Unfortunately after his win Choate would be unable to make the call for the A-Main and remain in the pits with mechanical issues moving Williamsburg’s Jeff Watson to the front row outside of Adkins. At the start Adkins would jump to the lead with Watson, Rusty Yarger, and Josh Francis in pursuit. As Adkins began to pull away from the field the race was on for 2nd with Yarger settling in for the first 13 laps before Francis would make the pass. With the number of laps more than twice what the Chevette division normally runs in their A-Main it was a race of attrition with several cars dropping out of the action as the race went on. Yarger would exit early ending his quest for a 5th straight A-Main win and with only 5 laps to go Francis would drop out while running 2nd. Adkins continued to dominate the race, leading all 40 laps and lapping all but the top 3 cars to take home the big pay day in the Carrington Farm Supply, Brown County Pork Producers, Lykins Oil, P&G Farms, Paul Brath Farms sponsored Tarvin machine. Jeff Watson would come home 2nd followed by Derrick Davis, Kris Parker, and Jerry Florence Jr. rounding out the top 5.
