I was wondering if anyone id willing to share any tips on how they are reducing weight. Our weight rule allows me to weigh in at 1600lbs with me in the car after the race. So I can safely get the car to 1450lbs dry weight, even as low as 1425 with fuel. I have got the car down to nothing but tin, but have a pretty elaborate cage. My best guess is that i'm 100lbs lighter then stock, based on the 200lbs of steel used in the cage. I've attached some picturesof the car thus far. The interior is pretty much done, just waiting for the steering parts to show up so I can finish the colum and button up the dash.

You've done a very nice job on the cage! I appreciate people who put pride and craftsmanship into their work. It definitely shows! If it was mine, I would cut the front and rear fender wells out, along with the back end where the tail lights mount. You should shed a good 50lbs by doing this, maybe a little more. You might consider an aluminum hood or even an aluminum body if rules allow.
The lightest Chevette i've ever seen with driver was around 1750 lbs. The driver weighed maybe 135 - 140 lbs. He had a gutted Chevette body similar to yours.

Thanks guys. I think im going to be more realistic around 1800lbs. Which isn't bad, there hasn't been a car in the class weigh in under 2000. I hope thats the case this season as well.
I'm on a pretty strict budget on this car, and found the "HO" dual outlet mainfold for $40 as opposed to the CC header that will run about $300 to get it here. That will have to come down the road.

nice cage but a lot of overkill, one thing tho put a longer set of bolts that come up throught the flour pan where the torque tube bolts on ,then bring a bracket from the bottom of the cage to brace it ,the stock bolts mounts will fail eventually

I want to know what you used to get all the seam sealer off! Thats the smoothest and cleanest floorboard I think I've ever seen! lol

There wasn't that much to remove from what I remember. This was a super clean car with no rust. I was pleasantly surprised, when I was gutting it, I was able to hit it with a wire wheel, and weld the sub frame in without cleaning any glue off.
