After running my new engine for 50 miles I heard a tapping and found it to be the #1 intake lobe on my new lunati cam . I removed the follower and the cam felt better than the follower so I replaced the follower and readjusted the lifters (solid lifters by the way) there was some grey metal in the filter so i changed it with 5/30 and Lucas ZDDP additive. Does any one think the cam can be saved?

I set the lifters @ 0.006 hot. The lobe has a flat spot in it on the point its not big at all. less than 0.005" there is a little difference between the center and the outside of the lobe that doesn't contact the follower but not much. What do you think is the best way to polish it . I was going to try wet/dry sand paper starting with 600 grit and moving to 1500 but I will have to flat file the edges of the flat spot first to round it. I ran it with the valve cover off and way less oil sprays out of that lobe than the others at first I couldn't see any I don't think the hole was drilled out correctly by Lunati . All the other lobes look great they barely rubbed of the parkerized coating. My concern is after I clean it up how do I re coat it.

i would use emery cloth to reshape the cam and follow with the wet -dry paper, even if you have to take a little material from the bottum and sides the most you will lose is a little in duration, one thing ,5w30 seames really light ,i use staight 50 in my race motors and 10w40 on the street-don't no about the coating

thanks I talked to a machinist today and he said the same thing. I need to run 5/30 synthetic If I use heavy oil the turbocharger bearing will overheat.

I also pushed a welding tip cleaner through and freed the oil hole
