Running a race track is no different from running a business. You got to have a good crew. You can't do it all on your own. You need people that are knowledgeable about racing and willing to work hard. Do you advertise? Like any business, you have to go get the customers, not expect them to come to you. You have to have a set payout. Divide it up 1 - 6 cars 7 - 12 cars 13+ cars. No matter if you have 3 or 103 show up pay what you advertise. You may lose money some weeks, but racers know you're commited and will come back.
A good website is critical. People want to see a website that is not cluttered up with ads / popups and one that is updated weekly with news and photos. Hosting is $11.95 a month through Yahoo! and i have the website builder software to build one. It's time consuming, so i would have to charge a fee to build one. I'm not trying to force you into doing anything you don't want to do, but you really need a good PR man/woman. Someone that will spread the word about Macon County Speedway. Like i said, not many know the place even exsists. How can you ever make that track successful if people don't know about it?
I haven't been up there in about a year. Is the facility in good condition? Spectators want a comfortable and entertaining environment. Good bleachers is one main asset. Noone wants to sit on rotted out bleachers, or go to a filthy restroom, or eat stale food. Not saying it is, just some critical points. Do you have kid activities during intermission to keep them involved? Parents don't want their kid(s) tugging on them crying, "i'm bored, i wanna go home"...
In my opinion you have one of two choices. Pay the insurance bill and open the track up. Get someone to promote the track, new website, photographer, etc. Or, just call it quits. Either way Eddie, you have tried to give people a place to race and they respect that.
Good luck, feel free to call me if you need anything.
