Watson & Lunsford First Time Winners at Brushcreek

(Peebles, Ohio) - As the warm Saturday afternoon sun faded into the night, the racing action heated on the high banks of Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Bethel, Ohio's Spensor Watson drove the Valley Machine, Spark Promotion, Group Express, Suburban Bowl, Rayburn Chassis to the late model feature win. Peebles Ohio's Mike Gross drove the Central Star Drilling, North Star Drilling, Marshall Cambpell Race Engines, Ligthning Chassis to the modified feature win. Oak Hill, Ohio's Darrell Lunsford drove his Brim's Imports, Lunsford & Sardis Auto stock Nissan to the Chevette/ 4 cylinder feature win. Peebles, Ohio's Jim Helterbran drove his Graphic Creations, Shell Race Engines, Helterbran Trucking, Adams Chassis to the bomber feature win. While Peebles Ohio's Tom Partin claimed trophy 4 cylinder dash and Legend feature wins.
Bethel, Ohio's Spensor Watson and Manchester, Ohio's Mark Morrison brought the late model feature field to the green. Watson jumped out to the early lead over Morrison, Brett Foster and Marty Huntley. Watson stretched his lead in the early stages, as Huntley worked to get around Foster and Morrison. By lap seven Huntley had worked his way to second and now had his eyes set on Watson, who had pulled to a considerable lead by now. The action was slowed on lap sixteen when Brian Day spun coming out of turn four, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Watson held off the hard charge of Huntley. Over the final few laps Huntley tried to storm past front runner Watson, but Watson was able to maintain the lead and pick up the feature win. Following Watson and Huntley across the line were Darran Kattine, Mark Morrison, Brian Day rounding out the top five.
Peebles Ohio's Mike Gross and Dave Jamison brought the modified feature field to the green. Jamison jumped out to the early lead over Mike Gross and Davey Warnock. Jamison maintained a slight lead as Gross was receiving pressure from Warnock for second. The action was slowed on lap four when Miles Cook spun in turn four bringing out the caution. On the restart, Jamison jumped out to a slight lead over Warnock, who made his way around Gross. The action was slowed with a lap six caution when Darren Dryden and John Bravard got together in turn four. On the restart, Jamison maintained a slight lead over Warnock and Gross. The top three continued to battle for the lead, but Rick Hensley was on the move, moving up from his seventeenth starting position to fifth by lap ten. The action was slowed with a lap eleven caution when Travis Fleshman spun in turn four. On the restart, Hensley picked off two more spots, moving to third place. Front runner Jamison continued to hold a slight advantage over Gross. Hensley was working his way around Gross when the action was slowed on lap fourteen when Darrell Reno and Travis Fleshman got together in turn two, bringing the caution out. On the restart Hensley made the move to second and now had his eyes set on front runner Jamison. The action was slowed on lap sixteen when Kelly Lippert and John Bravard got together in turn two bringing out the caution. On the restart, Jamison continued to hold a slight lead over Hensley. The action was slowed for the final time when Travis Fleshman and Kelly Lippert got together in turn two, bringing out the caution. In a somewhat controversial ending the race went green & white, checkered. On the restart front runner Jamison appeared to run out of fuel, stacking the field up behind him. Mike Gross made it through to pick up the win. Following Gross across the line were Brad White, Davey Warnock, Jamey Adams, and Brett Kennard rounding out the top five.
Flemingsburg, Kentucky's Mitchel Fields and Blanchester, Ohio's Justin Buedendistel brought the chevette/4cylinder field to the green. At the drop of the green Fields bobbled losing several positions. Buedendistel held the top spot, but it would be short lived when Darrell Lunsford made the move around him coming out of turn four. Lunsford would began to stretch his lead over Buedendistel, Tom Partin, Randy Johnson, and Gary Rowland. Meanwhile Mitchel Fields began working his way back to the front. By lap four Fields had worked his way back to fourth, while Lunsford continued to hold the advantage over Buedendistel and Tom Partin. By lap six Fields had disposed of Partin and Buedendistel moving to the rear bumper of Lunsford's Nissan. Over the final few laps Fields made several charges at the Nissan, but to no avail. Fields made his final attempt coming to the checkered flag, but Lunsford held on beating Fields by a fender at the line. Following Lunsford and Fields across the line where Justin Buedendistel, Tom Partin, and Gary Rowland rounding out the top five.
Peebles, Ohio's Jim Helterbran and Roy York brought the bomber feature field to the green. Helterbran jumped out to the lead over third starting Brandon Thompson and Roy York. Helterbtan stretched his lead as York and Thomspn battled for second. Helterbran had worked his way to a huge lead when the action was slowed on lap six with a caution when York made contact with Thompson sending the 16t spinning in turn four. On the restart Helterbran pulled out to a huge lead over Thompson. Helterbran cruised to his second straight feature win. Following Helterbran across the line were Brandon Thompson, Matt Edmisten, Aaron Foccom, and Roy York rounding out the top five.
Brushcreek Motorsports Complex will take July 21 off for the Adams County fair. Thursday July 26. Brushcreek Motorsports Complex will hold a mid summer Test & Tune open to all classes. Regular racing action will return to the 1/3 mile speed plant on Saturday July 28 with Coca-Cola family night, a full racing program of late models, modifieds, chevette/4 cylinders, bombers, legends, and trophy 4 cylinders. The Little Creek Karting Complex will also return to action Saturday July 28 with a full race program.
