At my local track, there is a guy that is running a Chevette and says that the ring gear is the same for a manual and a automatic. He says the only difference is the ring gear for a diesel. I think he if full of it. Any truth to it?

The diesel ring gear was the same as any other model Chevette. Most had a 3.36, NOT a 4.11 as everyone once thought. Look on www.dieselchevettes.com i had posted some great info i found in a GM manual years back. Tells what gear came out in what year, and even under certain options. Yes, the ring gear is the same in auto and manual. Hope this helps, Stephen

Junk yard or someone on here is your only options. 3.36's came out in around 81/82 and were available until the Chevette was discontinued. Check that page on DieselChevettes.com it's been so many years since i posted that i can't remember exactly what year it came out.
