Hi, I searched alot on this trans. There is no shift kit made for it. You can still search for a transmission which's name is "tri-matic". Internal is the same as the th180 but was common on V8 Rover engines, so bolt pattern may vary. Search for Holden tri-matic and you may find transmission rebuilders located in europe that build manual shift kit and performance setups that will hold as much as 400hp! Another way to make an interesting transmission setup for the chevette is by swapping it with a 4l30E, which is the evolution of the th180 with an overdrive and electronic system. Also there are parts that will fit from the 4l30E to the th180 (stiffer accumulator spring is an example). You can use the 4l30E with a small circuit since the shifting is made through 2 solenoids that will apply hydraulic lines alternally (as OFF/ON=1, ON/ON=2, ON/OFF=3, OFF/OFF=4). Oil pressure is adjusted by a "servo solenoid" that will stiffen an oil pressure regulator as the current raises. It means that a stiffer shifting can be achieved by the touch of a switch. Link: www.transtec.com/rebuilder_news/2nd_q95r-n.pdf The difficulty with this swap is to make it bolt to the chevette engine. An adaptor plate for the trans to engine bolt pattern must be machined and spacers must be used for the converter. That's it... It's all I can say about the th180 and its cousin.

is this transmission similiar to some other gm autoamtics where you could get stiffer modulator springs ? or are they the same thing as the accumulator spring ?
