i have rpm's solid lifters. the clearance is .006 intake and .008 exhaust roughly? my question is how far down does the base go mine still sticks up a little which seems like when the valve gets pressed down the follower will hit the nut. and once these are in how would you go about getting them out?

On the Mullis lifters, you have to be absolutely sure that they are pressed all the way in, you can do this with a block of wood or aluminum and a hammer to tap them in. You should be able to hear a definite sound difference. As for getting them back out you can use a piece of all thread(7/16-20) to make a makeshift slide hammer, I do make an attachment that goes on the end of a slide hammer to pull them out while they are fully assembled. NOTE: NEVER EXCEED .012 CLEARANCE

mine is still above the surface slightly where they go into. pulling them out like that dont mess up the heads? seems like putting a bolt on there you dont need to pull it out will save the head part of lifter. as for .012 clearance that would leave too much room for the follower to slip off lash cap and more problems.

they are never perfectly flush and when lash exceeds .012 the followers can snap in half

so i may have it in all the way then. i was comparing it to the hydraulic lifter and seems like it needed to go way down in there. but i guess im on the right track. i took the hydraulic lifter bottom (cause it broke apart pulling it out) and hammered on it to put the solid lifter body in and wouldnt go any farther. now is that measured at follower/lash cap or cam/follower.
one more thing would anyone happen to have a pic of them installed in resting and open positions. better to be safe then sorry.
