how much oil pressure does a new motor have.it is about 20 psi idle and 35 to 40 psi driving. thanks johnny

thats a little low at idle,but 35-40 is plenty out on the road,what kind of oil are you using

A rule of tumb for a small block chevy is 10 psi by 1000 rpm. It means that, for example, a built engine can rev up to 6000rpm with 60 psi and be safe. I know that rework, redrill, the oil passages on a crank is important for a moded engine. It even more is the case for the chevette engine because if I remember, from what I heard, 2 and 3 rod bearins are especially prone to failure. Just anothor thought...
