I'd like to thank everone who helped me with my last couple of posts.
I'm looking for some suggetsion and or some help.
I'm new with the Chevette 1.6l Engine. It is somewhat different that the big block mopars I was brought up on.
My son and I have rebuilt the engine in his Chevette. This will a street car not a circle track racer & The changes & modifications we have made have done wonders for the performace of this car.
We have a 79 head and a 87 lower end.
The head was ported & polished.
Cutsom ground street cam from Elgin Cams.
I tried to get all the drag of the motor I could.
Eletric fuel pump, Eletric fan, No AC.
Stock intake with a new stock holley carb, it is also a 79, and does note have the computer stuff on it.
I used an Accel Super Coil & Performance Control Modul, along with a adavnce curve kit in the dist, 9mm wire & splitfire plugs.
I have a HO dual outlet exhuast manifold with signle exhaust.
I do have this in front of a Auto trans and it sounds very cool for a 4cyl.
This is what I'm thinking about doing and this is where i need some help. 1st I have my eye on a 4 speed car to slip this engine into, this alone should put more power to the wheels.
I'd like to bore the engine .030 over, use a different 2bl carb, I have read a weber 32/36 would be better. I was also thinking of turning 1/8" off the crank counter weights and having the crank rebalanced along with taking some weight off the fly wheel.
The last thing I was thinking was to run a 100 amp alt & run the water pump by 12 volt motor.
Is it true that the stock rear gear ratio is 4:11 with a auto trans?
If is I slip the pig from the auto car into the 4 speed car.
What do you think? Please let me know your comments and suggestion.
I want to put something together that will put some of these funny sounding rice burning street machines to same.
