This may be a stupid question but I need some advice. If I were to bore my block .040 over and shave .060 to .080 off the head, how much difference would that make?
Being an overhead cam engine does making the distance between the crank and cam matter? Would the Cam have to be degreed differently?

Yes it does move the head/cam closer to the pistons/crank, so you have to tighten the timing belt by moving the tensioner a little, You still have to degree the cam in so the valve timing is correct. What shaving the head .060-.080 does? it increases the compression pressure in the combustion chamber thus increasing the torque& HP if the air/fuel mixture is corrected!

Hello Guys Fellow Ice Racer here in Canada. I shaved my head 0.040" and want to reset my cam timing. Trouble is, I don't know what degree the stock chevette Cam is supposed to be! Can anyone help?

A stock cam should degree in at 102* intake centerline.

You're welcome. Scott Mullis at Mullis Machine makes adjustable cam gears, which makes degreeing in the cam MUCH easier! No more messing with SBC degree bushings. Check him out at www.mullismachine.com or he goes by rpm/mullis on here.
