Hello,
If you read some of the oldest threads in this section, you will find good infos. Lazer cam company no longer exists. There is no specific racing parts for the chevette engine, at least concerning the internal parts. The bottom end is heavy and has some flaws, it won't rev above 6000 rpm safelly with stock internals. The head won't flow well unless you work hard on it. That's all comes to my mind now.

Where are you located backwoods45? Scott Mullis (rpm on here) makes adjustable solid lifters, adjustable cam pullies, modifies the 5210 Chevette carbs. and has now started making custom intake manifolds. Check him out for things like that. Depending on where you're located, there's a couple good machine shops thats built these engines for years. Huntley in Ohio is good, but pricey. I dont have a machine shop, but have built numerous engines for racers in the south (Tennessee). Like Hydroli said, check out older posts, you'll find lots of good info.
Keep us posted! Stephen Fields

If you want to keep it chevy and rather simple, swapping it for the "Iron Duke" may be a good option. It's 2.2 to 3.0 Liter and has been produce carburated. It could be cost effective and makes a better base for further modifications. Most of the guys here are limited to the stock engine, so that's why they stay with the 1.6. I personally want to build the most out of the "original" engine, it's a good challenge and I like it. It can be fast but not without work, time and some money; it must be assumed before you start to build it. However, if you want to build the 1.6 I'm sure you will find the help you need here. Good luck and just ask if you have questions.

Ya I Do wanna stick with this motor cause I could that they do hold up to a lot I have not had a sbc hold up to what I put this lil motor throw when I drove the car everday I was hard on it and that's puttin it lite but If I do change it I would put a 2.3 in it or the 2.5 in it the reason for the 2.3 is the parts to build a nasty lil motor are every where here but I like to be A lil diff and have a challage also but thanks you all are a big help I am off to read more oh and one other thing what do you all do to stengthin the alum part of the rearend? It kinds worrys me I heard they like to break if your rearend get tweaked and could I buy the 4.11 gears at a parts store like autozone... Since they came stock in76 and 77?
