hey guys i have another question for you. i am having some troubles with my car. i had my timing belt break on me a little while back and have had it in the shop a couple of times. basically, the problem is it doesn't want to run at idle. i also spent a day at autozone with one of the guys replacing and returning different parts...then the other day, i got to thinking about trying to replace the timing belt tensioner pulley because after my mechanic replaced the belt, the pulley started whining. i got online and searched for the part and the only thing that came up was an idler pulley. so, with that being said, what are the chances on that pulley being the thing that keeps my car from wanting idle?
also, the mechanic said it was running and when i went to pick it up the only thing that had changed was they cranked the idle up on it...

Sounds like the timing was not set properly when the new belt was replaced. Have them recheck your cam timing. Is this stock or modified? If the head has been milled, you could possibly have some bent valves.

well it is all stock. also last night i was driving home and it died on me. it was kinda being jerky that day and i didnt want to think about it. it sounds like there isnt any resistance when the motor tries to start. if it is the idler pulley what should i do? i have searched online and everything is telling me discontinued part. there are a few salvage yards around here im gonna hope and try that they would have it if not i am worried of the outcome of my chevette...
and also does anyone know what new hardware i should buy to bolt a header on my car...if i get it lined out.
thanks for posting guys

do a compression test on it, you should see the same numbers across all 4 cylinders give or take 10psi for different wear in each cylinder but no more on a good engine. It should be no less that 100 psi min for it to have enough compression to run even close to well
