He's probably talking about the 1.8 or 2.0L (Can't remember which liter it was) Pontiac Sunbird head. Back about the time i got out of Chevettes full time (2003), me and John Greene had looked into trying one. Good to hear someone made it work. There's a need for quiet a bit of machine work for water passages, oil passages, etc to line up, not a direct bolt on. I bet with that head, they are making some major HP. The ports are huge in stock form compared to a modified Chevette head. You can also run the valves out of some earlier Sunbird heads in the Chevette. You have to cut and regroove the stems. Sunbird valves are 1.6xx IN 1.4xx EX. It's been so many years since i fooled with that, i can't remember exact specs. Here's some pics I took several years ago of the head compared to a Chevette and bolted on a bare Chevette block. These used to be top secret... LOL ;D Ahhh the good ole days...

Seems like the experimental heads i had were off 84 model Pontiac Sunbirds. The cam carrier would work with of course more modifications. The valvetrain geometry was my main focus. It was going to require alot of trial and error to get it right. The timing belt was also too short, would have to find something that fit. It was going to be alot of work for sure, but it would definately be worth it!

This is not concerning chevette engines, but i have 2.5 4 cylinder boat engine that is 181 ci with 4" bore 3 3/4 in. stroke it is really based on the 2.5 like came out in the chevy II novas, but their ci is 153, so that would make this engine almost a 3.0 4 cylinder, they say its half of 327 but anyways what i am getting at see the cams are in the bottom like a V8, they i have heard that on some of those engines a 350 head will work on them! also about boat engines, ford made a boat engine, it was half of 460, it was a 4 cylinder with 460 pictons in it! Well there is some of my stuff i know, even if it dont fit in! ;D

That's a big 4 banger or should I say Boomer. lol
I know a friend who heard of a 2.5 that had a SB2 Head. At was making 400hp and he shifted at 11000rpm from what he said. It was in the high 9s in a lightened car.
I know there's better engines than my little 1.6, but I like the challenge of tryin' to make some power out of a chevette engine.

Those 2.5L Iron Duke engines have the same head bolt pattern and spacing as a SBC 305/350.

I got pictures of the Chevy 400hp 2.5 Liters engine. Engine: Special heavy duty block, sleeved big bore, fully ported SB2 head, huge header as you can see. Here is the car: It's a lightened Opel GT running in the 9 seconds / ΒΌ mile.
