yes, you back the nut off the tie rod just a hair then turn the ite rid off, count the number of spins. put the new one on count the spins to the same number and it should be close to the nut, then move the nut to the new tie rod. this is for the outter tie rod. of couse your going to have to put a wrench on the inner tie rod bar to loosen and tighten things.

Sobeit, I think Zack is wanting to know how to change the actual tie rod, not the tie rod end.
I haven't ever fooled with the tie rod itself, but i believe the Haynes Chevette manual tells you all about it. Seems like you had to have special tools or something, but its been a long time since i read that part. My Haynes manual has been in storage for about 3 years lol.

in that case you need to pull the end out of the spindle, pop the boot off after you loosen/remove both clips that hold it on and slide it down to tie rod end, becareful with the clips/clamps or w/e you want to call them. i broke mine and autozone and such dont have it in their computers. you might beable to use hose clamps of similar sizes. i think i used an adjustable or an open end wrench. you will need to put the e-brake on and jack car up and support on jack stands. the whole front, its alot easier. careful of the small metal pipe that goes to boot, i left mine out and i had to remove the boot and put it back in.
