well i think it would be easier if ur gonna run open motor you can put anything in the block that u want i heard some saying no strokers some asking about sunbird pistons it will be too much trouble to tech them u would have to tear them down and everything it would just be much easier just to look at motor make sure its a chevette block and rearend and transmission wat do you guys think?

I agree anything done to motor just gotta be vette. and vette trans, rearend, and supinsion.
don't they put ford trans in a vette or somthin like that?
How can they check 4 that? its still a vette trans but with ford parts??
No 5 speeds??

Here is my opinion on what a good set of rules would be. THESE ARE NOT THE RULES FOR RIVERVIEW, JUST A SUGGESTION! Body: No full aluminum bodies. Replacement of door skins, quarter panels, fenders, and hood, with aluminum or steel permitted. Must resemble Chevette body. No fender flares or late model style body lines. Must have stock firewall and floorpan. Spoilers allowed. NO TUBE FRAMES Window: Lexan only. No plexiglass. If no window, must have screen. Weight: 1900 or 2000 lbs Suspension: Stock Chevette suspension only. A-arms can be modified for camber adjustments only. Racing springs permitted. No racing shocks allowed. Must be over the counter non-adjustable type shocks. $15 per shock buy rule. Adjustable panhard bar permitted. Driveline: Stock Chevette Transmission (4 Speed Only), Must have all forward and reverse gears. Stock Chevette rearend only(3.36, 3.62, 3.70, or 4.11) Stock steel driveshaft. Stock or modified steel Chevette flywheel only, scatter shield recommended. Wheels & Tires: Max 13 x 8" wheels. 1" lug nuts required. Any DOT street tire. NO racing tires. Fuel: Gasoline only. NO ALCOHOL, NITROMETHANE, NITROUS OXIDE, OR OTHER FUEL ADDITIVES ALLOWED. Engine: Chevette only. Any 2 barrel carb. on Chevette intake. Racing cams and adjustable pullies allowed. Porting and polishing, solid lifters, and larger valves allowed. Any bore size with cast pistons only. NO AFTERMARKET FORGED PISTONS. Must have stock Chevette crank and connecting rods. Can be lightend and balanced. NO STROKER CRANKS OR AFTERMARKET RODS. Ignition: Must have Chevette distributor. No crank-fire ignition systems. Plus all your other safety stuff... ____________________________________________________ Since most everyone is wanting unlimted engines, except stroker cranks and Honda rods, why not pull the oil pans only? You can jack the engine up high enough to get the oil pan off. That way you're not taking any internals apart or messing up gaskets (besides oil pan gasket). You could tell from the oil pan side if one is stroked (block will be relieved) Someone could make a gauge off a stock stroked engine, to measure between the rod and the block. If the gauge does not fit, you know for sure they are stroked. Honda rods are obvious. You could even tell if they're running cast or forged pistons. Forged will have honeycomb or other designs on the underside, forged will be smooth. Make the protest fee affordable. $75 - $125 to pull oil pan only. That way you don't have someone cheating all season, and no one able to afford to check them. Some tracks have like a $325 protest fee... thats ridiculous. Now chime in and let everyone know what you want... Here's an example of a cast piston VS a forged piston. You can tell a difference from the underside. ***Not Chevette pistons in the pic.***

you guys need to concentrate on getting the class going first and foremost,no new track that is just reopening is going to put much time and effort into a support class, make your rules simple and straight forward to start then go from there down the road, one thing to remember, the biggest badest stroker motor around will run dead last on asphalt if the handling isn't there----just my 2 cents worth i'd hope you guys get it done

But if that biggest baddest stroker motor has the right setup under it, they're gonna be lapping the field. If nothing is done about it, people will get tired of showing up without a chance of being competitive and quit coming. I'd say get a good set of rules in stone from the start and enforce them. You guys need someone trustworthy and familiar with Chevettes that will volunteer to check when the need comes up. I think this person should have the right to check anyone on any given night, protest or not. That's the only way the rules will ever be enforced.

1. I couldn't be there every week.
2. If I could be there every week, I would be racing something.
3. You couldn't pay me enough to tech the cars. I would be accused of everything from showing favortism to finding someone illegal because I don't like them... lol Too much drama. ;D

Just face it, this class has got out of hand at about any track u go to! here is what i think, they should have a claimer on these engines and cars, that would stop all of this 5000 dollar racing engines! if they didnt want there engine claimed, they shouldnt put that much in one , dont know if im right or wrong, but thats my opinion!

Get a set of rules that the majority agrees on, set them in stone, and enforce them. Pull oil pans or whatever you have to do to make sure everyone is running legal. If you crack down from the beginning and keep enforcing the rules, you'll have a great class with good competition. KEEP IT AFFORDABLE!!!
With the economy in as bad of shape as its in and the talk of a recession in the future, someone needs to be doing everything possible to keep this class affordable! If the $4000 - $5000 engines start, the class will end once again.
Take it for what its worth. I've been in Chevettes for 10 years. I've seen it go from mildly modified with 30+ cars a night to highly modified with 10 (if you're lucky) cars a night. It's not rocket science. Keep it affordable you'll keep cars.

You will NEVER be able to make everyone happy. If you establish a good set of rules you might lose two or three cars, but if you let it go with no rules you will only have a few cars left after a few weeks. Been there, done that. I dont want that to happen this year. The way I see it is some cars will have to upgrade and some will have to downgrade. If we plan on making this work we will all have to change something.

Very well said Billy!
Lets get back to the rules...
What does everyone think? Got a week to decide on something. Does anyone agree with pulling oil pans? Gasket costs $7.99 at AutoZone.
