I am planning on replacing the stock 4 speed transmission in my 79 chevette with a 5 speed. Is it necessary to change to the larger 8 inch clutch to do this? This is for a street car. Thanks

I would ask for informations about the light custom clutch built out of an automatic flex plate. You could run the 8 inches (don't know if the light custom clutch is, but if...) without the extra weight.

Hydroli, are you refering to the light flywheels made by bolting a machined down manual flywheel and an automatic flex plate outer section to it?
I would stay away from those. Scott Mullis CNC machines stock flywheels down to 6 - 7 lbs safely.

Ah, You sure are better advised than me Fields. All I did is read it in the "for sale" section. Good to know, thanks.

I'm familiar with the small diameter multi disc racing clutches and I definitely don't need one of those for the street. I haven't had any problems with the stock 7 inch clutch but just curious if y'all thought it would be worth the trouble of changing flywheels to get the larger 8 inch.
